In addition to lush green nature, Gironde is also enriched with a whole host of magnificent and beautiful lakes. These bodies of water once bordered the Atlantic Ocean, until a line of dunes isolated them. These lakes, some of which date back several centuries, have retained their charm and authenticity. Perfect places to spend quality time with loved ones, family and friends. Time for everyone to indulge in a whole host of water activities, with fishing at the top of the list. Among the countless lakes beautifying the Gironde lands, three of them are unmissable.
The Lacanau pond to recharge your batteries
Head to the Lacanau pond to find some calm in Gironde and reconnect with nature. Discovered 6 km from Lacanau Océan, this natural gem worthy of a postcard is located in the heart of the Landes forest. Its location allows a total disconnection with the outside world and a boost of energy. Let yourself be intoxicated here by the scent of maritime pines, pretty mimosas and broom. This lake, 2.6 m deep, even 8 m deep in places, covers an area of 2,000 ha. Its waters are simply perfect for windsurfing, canoeing, water skiing, pedal boating and fishing. The more adventurous can kayak to the south of the lake and the Arcachon basin via the Porge canal. Otherwise, the coves of the pond are suitable for the whole family for a relaxing break, coupled with good tasting moments.
Lake Cazaux-Sanguinet to clear your mind
Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet are one of the hubs of Gironde tourism. This freshwater lake, attached to the Arcachon basin, is renowned for being one of the largest in France. Shared between the departments of Gironde and Landes, this beautiful site has more than one trick to amaze. Impossible to remain frozen in the face of the purity and clarity of its waters, the omnipresence of the surrounding forest and above all the faunal richness of its funds. The lake is a place for fishing for all kinds of fish, including carp, pike, perch and pike perch. In addition to this activity, the site is also ideal for swimming and other water activities. Otherwise, its sandy beaches and forested banks promise great moments of relaxation with the family.
Lake Dagueys to exercise differently
Impossible not to mention the artificial lake of Dagueys in the selection of the most beautiful lakes in Gironde. This site, covering an area of 40 hectares, enhances the Libourne area. Its particularity lies in its straight bank. This body of water and its beach are used as a leisure area, where you can play, walk and relax. The lake is perfectly well equipped to host sailing, canoeing and rowing sports competitions. It also offers a launching device to allow people with reduced mobility (PRM) to swim in complete safety. For children, the site includes a leisure center with inflatable structures on the water. Swimming is supervised there in July and August.
